Introduction
Outside-in is a building of a mixed use such as a shopping center and contemporary art museum, and the site faces Istiklal street, the most vibrant street in the new part of Istanbul. The building is composed of six tubes, and two different programs are arranged in the inside and outside of the tubes. The inside of the tubes that opened toward Istiklal street is outdoor space. It seems as if many streets penetrate a building, thus the three-dimensional streets are contained in this building.
Inside of the tubes, open-air spaces, are occupied with commercial use same as Istiklal street. Some of the tubes connect to Istiklal street directly and invite huge number of shopping people. Outside of the tube, an indoor space, is a contemporary art museum. The entrance does not face the main street. This museum is a quiet place, like a void space inserted in the dense city.
Outside-inは現代美術館とショッピングセンターの複合施設であり、イスタンブールの新都市部の最も賑やかなイスティクラル通りに面して建てられる。この建築は6つのチューブとそれを包むファサードによって構成されている。チューブの内部はイスティクラル通りに向かって開けた屋外空間である。それはたくさんのストリートが建築を貫通しているようにも見えるし、3次元のストリートが建物に内包されているようにも見える。
屋外空間であるチューブの内部はイスティクラル通りと同様に商業施設によって占有される。いくつかのチューブはイスティクラル通りと直結しており、たくさんの人を建物に招き入れるだろう。屋内空間であるチューブの外部は現代美術館である。エントランスは通りには面していない。この美術館は都市の中のボイドスペースのように静かな場所になっている。
