Introduction
[Architecture with a mechanism of fashion]
City Ghost is a building planned for the theater, art gallery, restaurants, shops, and offices in Aoyama, Tokyo, the heartland of fashion. This building is arranged so that the spaces for its main purposes, the theater’s main hall, display space for the art gallery, and so on, are in the rear, while spaces for the secondary purposes, such as lobbies, are in the front. This division and relocation of space make the facade, a large glass wall, a screen that is not a decoration, but a way of projecting the inside of the building to the viewer, always giving a different expression. Thus, the building cannot become a past relic in Aoyama, where fashion changes at a furious pace. In a word, City Ghost is architecture with a mechanism of fashion.
[ファッションの仕組みの建築化]
City Ghostはファッションの中心地である東京の青山に計画された劇場、美術館、レストラン、ショップ、オフィスのための文化複合施設である。劇場のホールや美術館の展示スペースなどの主要な目的のための空間を後ろに配置し、前面にはロビーやショーウィンドウのような副次的な目的の空間を、大きなガラスの壁のファサードに配置している。空間を分断し配置し直すことにより、ファサードは装飾ではなく内部の様子を映し出すスクリーンとなり、建物に常に違った表情を与え続けることになる。この建築は、流行の移り変わりの激しい青山に取り残された過去の遺物になることはない。つまり、City Ghostはファッションの仕組みを建築化したものである。
